Take a mid winter escape and travel with Steam Incorporated on this special diesel hauled outing to Taranaki with the goal of viewing a snow clad Mt Taranaki. The train will run from Paekakariki to Stratford via Palmerston North and Wanganui.
The train will comprise our fleet of classic red “steel” cars. These date back to the early 1930’s. There will be an open air viewing platform on the train. Also included is a buffet counter selling burgers, sausages, sandwiches, drinks and snacks, and a souvenir counter forall sorts of railway and steam memorabilia. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.
We will have just over an hour at Stratford. It is a 12 minute walk from the railway station to the centre of town where the Glockenspiel (clocktower) is located. An optional visit to the nearby Pioneer Village.

You can board the train at Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Palmerston North, Feilding, Marton or Wanganui (Eastown). Prior bookings required.
Stratford – Taranaki Pioneer Village Cost Adult $14, Child $7
The Pioneer Village is a two minute bus ride from the station. It is an outdoor museum and village setting that includes the restored Opunake and Tariki Station buildings, plus a 24” gauge railway. There is a café on site. Cost includes admission to the museum, train ride and bus transfers. See www.pioneervillage.co.nz (external link) for more info on the museum.
Evening Meal (limited numbers)
A preordered hot evening meal will be delivered to the train at Marton for you to eat at your seat (on your lap). This will be a Beef and Guinness Casserole with gourmet baby potatoes, steamed carrots and beans. Plus a dessert which is likely to be a New York Cheesecake with Berry Coulis and whipped cream or fresh fruit salad. Cost $24.
