Was one of the first NZR locomotives painted in the "fruit salad" paint scheme during early 1978. Renumbered to DA 126 with the introduction of TMS numbering system in 1979.

Written off NZRC books: April 1988, with ownership transferred to Steam Inc.

Began excursion operation (along with DA 345) in September 1988.

Current status: Certified by Tranz Rail Ltd for mainline operation. On lease to The Railway Enthusiasts Society, Auckland, for use on the Glenbrook Vintage Railway and main line excursions in the Auckland area.
