Steam Locomotives

The steam locomotive collection spans half a century of New Zealand steam locomotive development. Along with six ex NZR steam locomotives also based at Paekakariki is an ex Rhodesian Railways Garratt locomotive.


WWI Memorial locomotive “Passchendaele”, built in 1915. In regular main line excursion service.

Our first steam locomotive, built in Scotland in 1939. Stored complete awaiting 2nd restoration.
