We have a variety of different experiences on offer for all travelers - whether it's a scenic cruise up to the Kapiti Coast hub at Paekakariki, or a fast jaunt through the suburbs of the Hutt Valley, we can't wait to welcome you onboard to experience local surroundings from a unique perspective! Heading north, the trains will be hauled by steam locomotive Ja 1271, and heading south, the trains will be hauled by one of our heritage Da class diesel electric locomotives! See all of these trips below:

The Brekkie Express

The early bird get's the worm! Climb onboard this early morning steam-hauled passenger train at Wellington, as the sun rises. Get your Saturday started right with a breakfast package at your seat as we skirt the harbour between Ngauranga and Petone before cutting in through the valley and heading through the suburbs of both Lower & Upper Hutt. At Upper Hutt, our train drivers change ends and our Da class diesel electric will haul us back into Wellington, stepping off the train at Platform 9 where you can continue on with your day! No better way to start your day, than with Steam!

There are two different trips available, the first is a return trip from Wellington, and the second is a return trip from Upper Hutt.

Return trips departing Wellington at 7am and Upper Hutt at 8:05am!

Valley Steam Supreme

Jump onboard these steam-hauled passenger trains at Wellington and head down the Hutt Valley line! Relax at your seat as we skirt the harbour between Ngauranga and Petone before cutting in through the valley and heading through the suburbs of both Lower & Upper Hutt. At Upper Hutt, our train drivers change ends and our Da class diesel electric will haul us back into Wellington, stepping off the train at Platform 9. A great opportunity to come out with the family and step back in time onboard our heritage train!

Return trips to Upper Hutt departing Wellington at 9:15am and again at 11:30am!

Capital Steam Limited - Hutt Valley

Hop on this rare opportunity to ride on a heritage train in Upper Hutt! Relax at your seat as we head south through the Hutt Valley and skirt Wellington's harbour between Petone and Ngauranga behind our heritage Da class diesel electric locomotive. At Wellington, our train drivers change ends and our steam locomotive will haul us back to Upper Hutt. A great opportunity for Hutt locals to experience a heritage train!

Return trip to Wellington departing Upper Hutt at 10:15am!

Suburban Steam - Valley & Coast Package Deal

Join Steam Incorporated on this special multi-trip package traversing both the Hutt Valley and Kapiti regions! Board the train at Wellington's P9 and travel behind Ja 1271 out to Upper Hutt, taking in the stunning views of Wellington Harbour as we follow SH2 out of Wellington. Once at Upper Hutt there's a short layover before our Da class diesel electric locomotive takes us back to Wellington. After our steam locomotive has a small drink at Wellington's P9, we're off again! This time up a different track, towards the Kapiti Coast. Take in the spectacular views along the coast as we drop down to Paekakariki. For keen rail enthusiasts, this is an experience you won't want to miss!

Escarpment Steam Express

Sit back and relax on this express service north from the bustle of Wellington to the beaches of Paekakariki, including the scenic run along the Paekakariki Escarpment on the Kapiti Coast. In our run between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, we pass through 6 short tunnels, the shortest of which is only 59 metres! A section of railway line with origins dating back to 1886. A scenic afternoon train journey for the whole family, steam along the coast onboard our heritage train with our friendly team!

Return trip departing Wellington at 1:50pm!

Capital Steam Limited - Kapiti Coast

A rare opportunity to jump on a heritage train on the coast and race into the Capital! Relax at your seat as we climb up and out of Paekakariki through the handful of tunnels before Pukerua Bay, and then race down and through the northern suburbs. At Wellington, our train drivers change ends and our steam locomotive will haul us back to Paekakariki. A great opportunity for Kapiti locals to experience a steam train on this small jaunt to the city!

Return trip departing Paekakariki at 4:00pm!
