Information on operating and working days at The Engine shed.

We are usually open Monday to Saturday with the main work days being Saturdays and Thursdays. At these times working members are busy restoring and maintaining all manner of railway equipment and machinery, and visitors are welcome to look around the site.

Free car parking is available clear of the highway at the north end of the old Rail Air Shed.  This is the large building alongside the highway.

Paekakariki Depot.

Vehicles approaching from the north MUST proceed to Paekakariki township, cross over the level crossing and turn in the shopping area before approaching our site in a northerly direction.

Vehicles leaving our site and wishing to travel south MUST leave in a northerly direction and turn round via the Mackays Crossing Off Ramp and underpass back to the southbound lane.  Approximately 1 km north of The Engine Shed.

Unfortunately there is no safe pedestrian access from the Paekakariki railway station over to our depot.

Group tours can be accommodated on most days by contacting the secretary, preferably four weeks prior.

Road access to the site is directly off SH1 just north of the turn-off into Paekakariki township.
